Hey Band. I got this from the Catholic High band blog a while ago (about a year ago I think... Thanks by the way, lol) and Kelly and I thought it'll be good for the SLs and (future) principal players when they conduct sectionals and things like that.
Hence, we expect all SLs to print this by Wednesday, the 30th. IT'S COMPULSORY TO PRINT. We expect this to be in your files.
(Sir's one given in November should be kept too, although the songs don't really apply anymore, but the first page is good :D)
1) Set a target.
(Set a realistic time limit/date line for things you want your section to achieve)
2) Structure your practice.
(Big Picture -> Detailed Work -> Big Picture. Similar to an hourglass)
3) Sequence your learning.
(Rhythm, notes, articulation, dynamics, phrasing, even breath marks)
4) Sing.
(It really helps your section to have this musical message in your brain)
5) Take it slow.
(Slow practice with metronome helps you to perfect something correct, not your messy mistakes, especially awkward or running notes)
