Saturday, November 15, 2008 @ 14 days to Faith, Hope & Love II
Hey IJ band people (: We just received our SYF set piece today so please remember to write in your bar numbers, sort out your rhythm, circle your flats/sharps/whatever and to paste it with blutack on your files! SLs please try to go through the rhythm with your section mates so that they'll be more prepared when we run through on Monday.

Here's some information on Overture number 2 for wind bands and some information on the local composer of the piece:
KELLY TANG
(Composer, born Singapore, 1961) received his undergraduate training at York University (Toronto) and was awarded a Masters' degree in Composition by Northwestern University in 1991. He received his Ph.D. at Michigan State University in 1995. In 2008, Tang was conferred the Artistic Excellence Award by the Composers’ and Authors’ Society of Singapore (COMPASS).

Two Overtures for Wind Band was commissioned by the Ministry of Education for the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Bands 2009. Tang is the first Singaporean in eighteen years to be invited to compose a set work for this annual competition. Three Portraits for Symphonic Band was commissioned by The Ministry of Defence in commemoration of “50 Years of Military Bands Service in Singapore” to be premiered by the Singapore Armed Forces Central Band at the Esplanade in November 2008.

Reminder: please remember that even though it's school holidays now, usual school rules still apply. There should be no reason why any of you are not in the correct attire for the practices. If you're still not sure of what the correct attire is, look at your school diary. They even have diagrams for you to analyse.

Anyway I know this period (SYF) is when everybody gets stressed up and all but we'll make it through together as a band! (: Work hard and have faith everyone. Concert's in 2 weeks, exactly.
